Colour Facts For October 2019

  1. With global warming on the rise, our food chains are undergoing a significant change. This change is evident not just in humans but amongst birds and animals as well. One such interesting example is a new food source changing the colour of baboons near Kenya's Lake Bogoria. The apes have been reported to eat pink flamingoes. These birds have recently arrived at the lake to feast on the lake's protein rich rotifers and blue-green algae. The dead birds are an easy food source for the baboons. Researchers have reported that the monkeys' new taste for flamingoes is turning their grey coats into a yellowish-brown shade.

  2. Black and orange are considered as the colours of Halloween. But ever wonder why? The colours were in fact intentionally chosen since they function as opposites. Orange is typically associated with the colours of autumn- which generally starts in October in North America. It is also a lively colour and resembles the changing colour of the leaves. On the other hand, there is black. This colour is usually associated with darkness or anything evil. Since the colour gives a spooky feeling, it is also associated with the underworld and spirits. So the connection between black and orange is linked to denote this time of the year- the change in the colours of the leaves and the spookiest holiday celebrated across the world.

  3. Rangoli, a common Diwali tradition is all about combining symmetry, precision and colours. People draw rangoli on the floor at the entrance of their homes to welcome the Gods and good luck. Over the years, the traditional rice flour has been substituted with limestone and red brick powder to introduce more colours for the rangoli drawings. Chalk and chalk powder was also introduced with a variety of new colours. There are also vinyl stickers available in the market now which are easy to peel off and time-saving. Whatever the trends might be, rangoli will always be one of the Diwali traditions we all love!

  1. Accent walls can really change the entire look of a room. By blending colours, textures and tone, you can create a focal point in your room that is bound to bring some life to even the most boring wall in the house! You don’t have to deck all four walls of the room; all you need is one accent wall. Give your room a gleeful touch by painting one wall. Or use textured paints to add some personality and appeal to a wall. Ensure you keep rest of the walls muted and low key to avoid too much distraction.
