Colours & Emotion For November 2014

  1. Colours are loved by one and all for the obvious reason that they make the world around us beautiful and appealing. However, according to scientists, the experience of being influenced by colours is not limited to the visual experience alone. This fact was further consolidated by a study conducted by Harry Wohlfarth and Catharine Sam of University of Alberta. On the basis of their study, they claimed that a change in the colour of the environment led to the lowering of aggression and a drop in blood pressure of several handicapped and behaviourally disturbed children!

  2. We all have our dream cars which are chosen based on a host of factors, including our budget, taste and preference towards a particular car model or feature. Another very important aspect towards choosing a perfect car is its colour. Although, many of us are unaware that the choice of our cars' colour also says a lot about our personality! It is said that those driving a yellow car are happy and positive people, who are risk takers at heart. Meanwhile, those driving a red vehicle are believed to be achievers and go-getters who believe in getting the job done.

  1. Gemstones are often worn in combination with gold because gold as a metal has many positive attributes. All of us know that gold symbolizes wealth but what many of us do not know is that it is also the symbol of health. Gold is often associated with the golden rays of the Sun and is believed to be linked with divinity and the Gods associated with the Sun. Thus, the colour signifies wealth and success and is known to preserve wealth when worn around the neck. So, the next time why not try gold with your gems for better health, success and more courage in your personal life.

  2. The importance of gemstones is acknowledged across cultures and it's no different for Tibetan Buddhists. The only difference is their interesting twist to the belief in gemstones. They believe in five sacred stones, namely Crystal for light, Turquoise for representing the infinity of the sea and the sky, Coral for symbolizing life, Gold for the golden ray of the Sun and Silver for the light of the moon. Now, isn't that a fascinating way to look at it?

Colours & Nature For November 2014

  1. Mother Nature is replete with rich and beautiful jewel tones and here is an interesting fact about the Scarlet Gilia. The beautiful red shade of Gilia is not only for its aesthetic sense but also based on which animals are present during a given time! Researchers in Northern Arizona University have discovered that the Scarlet Gilia varies its shade of red in order to attract moths and again alters its shade to attract hummingbirds in another season. It certainly looks like nature also knows how to flaunt its colours to cater and attract its varied admirers!

  2. While we swoon over the beauty of the myriad hues of nature, experts have discovered that some colours do not exist in nature. The latest colour to fall under scrutiny is the colour pink. Experts suggest that the colour pink does not exist in nature and is actually a combination of red and violet, which are present on the opposite sides of the rainbow. Thus, scientists would have us believe that the colour pink is just wishful thinking on our brain's behalf. However, there is also another group of scientists who believe otherwise. Let us leave the debate to those who know best and stick to our pinks, shall we ladies?
