Colours & Gems For June 2021

  1. Moldavite

The gemstone you are looking at is Moldavite. Also known as Bouteille Stone, it is a fluid glassy material, a mineraloid that is mostly olive green in colour. An interesting piece of information about this gem is that it came from an asteroid impact about 15 million years ago in central Europe! It is used as jewellery in the form of pendants and earrings as it is hard and brittle like glass. These specimens are also fancied and collected by mineral and meteorite enthusiasts. However, the biggest purpose for gem and rough specimens of moldavite is in complementary medicine. You can paint a wall in your room interior this olive-green shade to pay an ode to this exquisite gem.

  2. Coral

The beautiful orangish-red stone that you are looking at is called Coral. It is a very important gemstone, especially when considering a match for marriage. However, there are some rules when it comes to wearing a coral. A coral meant to be worn should be either oval or round, never long and narrow. It is also important to ensure that the coral does not have a double shade and white spots at all. In addition to that, its weight should be anywhere between three to six carats. Mars is the ruler of coral and those individuals with Mars in their birth chart can wear a coral stone to improve their career prospects.

According to the Ocean Conservancy, all octopuses are venomous but this one's venom is 1,000 times more powerful than cyanide. It is deadly enough to kill 26 humans. Yes, you read that right! What makes it scarier is the fact that no blue-ringed octopus antivenom is available anywhere.

  2. Big Fin Reef Squid

Meet the Big Fin Reef Squid. Its namesake ‘big fins’ extend the length of its body. It spends most of its time near reefs and coastal rocks. It is found mostly in shallow coastal waters in the Western Pacific, Hawaiian Islands and the Indian Ocean. Colour patterns include almost transparent to black bands. It has a pair of iridescent transverse spots on its mantle that radiates metallic pista colour and red when illuminated.
