  1. There are many colour-related idioms in English. Here’s one of our favourite colour-related idioms with example. “Tickled pink” is a colour idiom. It means “to be extremely pleased, thrilled or delighted regarding something.” It is believed that the phrase refers to the fact that when some people get enthusiastic and excited, their skin colour tends to turn pink similar to when they are blushing. The blood vessels start to dilate and more blood flows closer to the skin, which is literally being tickled pink! The idea is of enjoyment, making the person go pink. Fascinating, isn’t it?

  2. Warm colours such as orange and yellow are known to exude feelings of happiness. These two colours are instant mood enhancers, perfect for dark and dull corners of the house. You can also use one of the two colours on an accent wall on a wall of your choice and keep the rest of the walls in a neutral or muted tone to balance the brightness of these peppy colours. In fact, these colours are also said to enhance the appetite, which is why you will see a lot of fast-food chains adopt these colours in their décor pieces and walls. If you are looking for a wall colour combination, pairing yellow and orange in your house can work wonders!

Peacock Feather
  1. Roseate Spoonbill

The strikingly beautiful bird you are looking at is called the Roseate Spoonbill. Sometimes mistaken for a Flamingo, this bird flaunts a shorter neck and legs in comparison. It has a long, flat, spoon-shaped bill, getting much of its pink colour from the food it eats. It is interesting to note that the crustaceans that it eats feed on algae which contain pigments that lend the pinkish colour. Amazing, isn’t it? Its upper neck and back are white, while the wings and feathers underneath display the more recognisable light shade of pink. Part of the spoonbill's head is a distinct yellow-green. When the bird is young, it is duller in appearance, gradually brightening as it grows older. A fun fact about the bird is that its nostrils are located at the top of the bill, making it possible for the bird to breathe while the bill is underwater!

  2. Powder Puff Flower

The pretty flower that you can see captured by the wonderful lens of a nature photographer is called the Powder Puff Flower. Resembling a fuzzy puffball, this flowering shrub is native to Bolivia. It attracts a lot of hummingbirds and butterflies towards it owing to its attractive flower. Interestingly, the buds before the flowers open resemble gorgeous raspberries. If you fancy this shrub, you can grow it indoors in a pot but it is recommended that it be grown outside in a warm climate. If you are inspired by the striking red flower of this shrub, you can use it as an inspiration for your wall paint design on an accent wall. A wall inspired by the beauty of this flower is sure to create a dramatic statement in home interiors.
