We caught up with Gul Agarwal to discuss what she thinks about being a woman in the field of design. We hope you enjoy this tête-à-tête!

Berger Paints India: What inspires you to think creatively and fuels you to’ paint your imagination’?(Paint your  imagination is Berger Paints’tagline).

Gul Agarwal: “Nature” is the ultimate source of my Inspiration. I have observed, there is nothing more Beautiful, Colourful, Calm and Creative than Nature. I try to adapt these phenomena in designing spaces for my clients.

Berger Paints India: Which is your favourite project till date? Tell us more about it.

Gul Agarwal: My favourite project is my current project always.

I am currently involved in Club Design of Supernova. It’s a community shared space with recreational and rejuvenating activities. Supernova is Supertech’s Prominent Mixed Use Development of unimaginable scale and splendour in Noida. It is expected to be completed by 2020, becoming the tallest tower in Delhi NCR.

All my Projects are favourite as I believe and try to put the best of my efforts, heart and soul in all the projects I get involved with.

Berger Paints India: How do you achieve work-life balance?

Gul Agarwal: Zaha Hadid once chuckled “If you want an easy life, don’t be an architect.” I believe Work and Life are parallel and the former should not overlap or supersede the latter. I carefully set my priorities to cope up with the time available.

Berger Paints India: Who is your favourite woman in the world of design/architecture?

Gul Agarwal: Zaha Hadid. She is a legend.

Berger Paints India: What made you choose architecture/interior design as a career?

Gul Agarwal: I truly believe that boldness and courage is required to step out and begin to forge your own path. Being an Architect myself, I can tell you that there is no job as fulfilling or as fun as being a designer. It gives you freedom of being creative and trying things that are new and unusual. There is no greater joy than seeing what you dream come alive.

Berger Paints India: What do you enjoy most about interior decorating?

Gul Agarwal: I love the free world of imagination. This what fascinates me and makes it enjoyable. I love being able to influence the way people inhabit space and experience space. Also,I enjoy studying people and making designs that reflect what people want specifically depending on there emotional and cultural values.

Berger Paints India: Which design trend are you most excited about?

Gul Agarwal: Minimalism, Keeping it Simple, yet Significant

Berger Paints India: Do you think interior design is a gender-dominated vocation?

Gul Agarwal: I think no profession is gender-dominated vocation. Women have and are proving in all the fields nowadays. Both are fundamentally same, yet the differences are profound.
