Painting Blues? Help is at hand

Are you planning to get your home painted but have no idea where to begin? You need to ruminate on many aspects. Primarily, you need to hunt for not just an ordinary painter but a reliable and skilled one with a thorough knowledge of colours and shades, who can complete the job in time.

Will he ensure quality? How much paint to buy? Will he put back your furniture and clean up after the job is over? If all these queries have weighed you down and caused postponement of your plan, help is at hand.

"We will provide solutions to your entire home painting problems," assures Mohammed Samiullah, Manager, Leuis Berger Home painting division. "If you are planning to paint your home, call us and relax. We will give you your dream home without the hassles," he says. You need to call and register your name.

The job starts with a free home visit by the company executive to understand the scope of the job. An accurate estimate, provided by the company, is the foundation on which each painting job is undertaken. You can use the services of colour consultants (wherever they are available) for shade selection. A warranty is also provided to assure the client on the quality of paints and workmanship.

"From pre- painting guidance to material sourcing and delivery to post-painting clean-up, we do everything. We help the client in budgeting, product selection, tackling defects and shifting furniture. We also complete the job on time," Mr. Samiullah says. Other painting companies such as Asian Paints also take up this job.

No aesthetic sense

An architect, Arti Sudhir Nair, opines that unprofessional painters may not be able to suggest the right colours, and many misguide a gullible homeowner into using a shade which may be took dark or different from the one indicated by the homeowner. "They don't have any aesthetic sense and will not know the technicalities of paint quality. They are best at covering a surface without any idea of creation that can add an aesthetic value to the surface."

A good painter should be able to suggest a paint which can be resist fungus, discoloration , non-fading etc. for both interior and exterior applications. This is where the companies that provide painting solutions score over others, she says. "These companies normally have a tried and tested skillful set of painters who ensure a good and even surface finish, which gives the house a happy décor. In case of any mistake, they correct it at no extra cost," she says.

"I engage the services of the professional company painters as I have found that they are easier to deal with than regular contractors. There is better accountability in meeting time deadlines, ensuring and facilitating the homeowners to move quickly into there home and also saving a lot on rent if work is executed quicker," Ms. Arti explains. They also suggest the different new finishes and textures available in the market.

A resident of Oak Wood Apartments that has 88 flats and penthouses in Koramanagala says that the companies do a professional job and are very cooperative.

"The colours look great on a card. We chose a colour from their card and told them to do a sample job. We were not happy with the job and they immediately changed the colour to suit our requirements."
